Type Locality and Naming

Along the Sarbatyr collection, Central Kyzylkum. Collective of authors, 1963 (449, table s-P). Previously called the Sarbatyr Fm (378; 382, table 13; 446).

Synonym: Kuduksarbatar Fm, Кудук-сарбатарская св.


Lithology and Thickness

Variegated gravels, sandstones, clays, sometimes kaolinized, layers of sooty coal. Up to 70m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Unconformably overlies the Paleozoic

Upper contact

With angular unconformity overlain by the lower Turonian.

Fossils

Contains large plant remains - Coniopteris sp., Cladophlebis haiburnensis (Lindl. et Hutt.) Brongn., Phoenicopsis angustifolia Heer., Brachyphyllum sp. and others, as well as freshwater bivalve mollusks Ferganochoncha sp and fish scales.
